The Minister for Primary Industries recently made decisions on sustainability measures for selected rock lobster, surf clam and scallop stocks for the 2013-14 fishing year beginning 1 April 2013.

In summary the Minister has decided to:
- Gisborne (CRA 3) rock lobster fishery – be guided by the existing CRA 3 Management Procedure and increase the CRA 3 Total Allowable Catch (TAC) and Total Allowable Commercial Catch (TACC) by 32.2 tonnes;
- Wellington/Hawkes Bay (CRA 4) rock lobster fishery – be guided by the existing CRA 4 Management Procedure and increase the CRA 4 TAC and TACC by 32.8 tonnes;
- Otago (CRA 7) rock lobster fishery- use the new CRA 7 Management Procedure and decrease the CRA 7 TAC and TACC by 19.9 tonnes;
- Southern (CRA 8) rock lobster fishery- use the new CRA 8 Management Procedure and retain the current TAC, TACC and allowances;
- Central (Egmont) surf clam fishery for deepwater tuatua, triangle shell, large trough shell and ringed dosinia - increase the TACs by between 203 and 1813 tonnes, and within this, increase the TACCs and allowances for Maori customary fishing and other sources of fishing-related mortality by various amounts;
- Coromandel (SCA CS) scallop fishery – increase the TAC by 83 tonnes and within this, increase the TACC, and allowances for Maori customary fishing and recreational interests.
