What our fees cover
The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) calculates fees on a cost-recovery basis.
Activities and services you may be charged for include:
- processing applications for facility and operator approval
- facility fees
- applications for transfer of goods between facilities
- inspection services
- travel costs.
Not all the charges on this page may apply to you and there could be other charges not listed here.
Using storage or treatment facilities
You will have to pay storage and treatment costs, if required, when importing or exporting products.
Contact the individual treatment provider for their fees and charges.
Transferring goods between facilities
You'll be charged for processing of your transfer application when you want to move biosecurity risk goods between MPI approved facilities (including for export).

Facility and operator approvals
MPI will charge you an application fee for approval of a new facility or operator. This includes processing your application, facility operating manual review, and site inspection by an MPI inspector. If your application takes longer than 8 hours to process, you'll be charged at an hourly rate for the extra time.

Ongoing charges for approved facilities
There are ongoing costs associated with being an approved facility, such as costs for facility verification inspections by MPI, as well as an annual facility fee.
