Squid 6T Operational Plan
Consultation has closed and the Minister of Fisheries has made his decision on the Operational Plan for the SQU6T fishery for the next 2 years. The Minister’s decision letter provides the details of, and reasons for, his decision.

Consultation background
Sea lion interactions with the SQU6T fishery are currently managed through the 'Operational Plan to Manage the Incidental Capture of New Zealand Sea lions in the Southern Squid Trawl Fishery (SQU6T) 2016/17' which expired on 30 September 2017. The Operational Plan specifies a mixture of regulatory and non-regulatory measures to manage interactions between the SQU6T fishery and sea lions.

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) has sought feedback on the management settings for the next Operational Plan and welcomed information and views from tangata whenua and stakeholders on the management settings included in the Operational Plan.

Submissions are public information
Any submission you make becomes public information. Anyone can ask for copies of all submissions under the Official Information Act 1982 (OIA). The OIA says we must make the information available unless we have a good reason for withholding it. You can find those grounds in sections 6 and 9 of the OIA. Tell us if you think there are grounds to withhold specific information in your submission. Reasons might include, it's commercially sensitive or it's personal information. However, any decision MPI makes to withhold information can be reviewed by the Ombudsman, who may require the information be released.
