Note: The export certificate must be in English and an official language of the country where the border inspection post which will clear the animal into the European Union is located.
Export certificates are issued in English for countries where English is the official language. Switzerland and Norway are not members of the EU, but may use EU import requirements.
There are no Zoosanitary Health requirements for the export of pet birds for non-commercial purposes from New Zealand to Canada.
The owner of the birds will need to obtain an Import Permit from the Canadian Food Inspection Authority (CFIA) and will need to provide an owners declaration to the Official Veterinarian to cover the residency status of the bird and the disinfection status of the cage/crate.
The pet bird will require an AWEC (Animal Welfare Export Certificate) as set out in the Animal Welfare Act 1999. This ensures the welfare of animals is provided for, so that they may travel and arrive in good health. Please contact an Official Veterinarian below for further information regarding issuing an AWEC prior to export.
