WHAT FOOD AND OTHER ITEMS CAN YOU BRING?
Use our tool to help you find out
We've got a tool to help you quickly get an answer about whether your food or other item is allowed into New Zealand. We don't have everything listed in the tool but it covers the food and other items we most frequently get asked about. The tool will also tell you whether there are any weight or quantity restrictions.
Bringing goods into New Zealand
If you are bringing or sending goods to New Zealand, you'll need to know about risk or prohibited items you need to declare, and if there are biosecurity requirements that must be met before your goods are cleared to enter New Zealand.
Requirements and processes may differ slightly, depending on the type of goods. Refer to information about:
- luggage travelling with you on an aircraft or ship
- household goods and personal effects
- full shipping or sea containers
- vehicles
- commercial goods.
You should also be aware of the requirements of other government agencies, like the New Zealand Customs Service (Customs).

Sending goods out of New Zealand
When sending non-commercial containers or cargo out of New Zealand, you need to be aware of the biosecurity measures you're likely to encounter at the destination country. You should contact the destination country's consulate or embassy for up-to-date information on import requirements for your container or cargo's destination.
You should also check Customs requirements.
