Update – 22 September 2023
Following this consultation, we've released the Animal Products Notice: Official Assurance Requirements, technical tracking documents, and a summary of the submissions we received. The new notice sets the requirements for issuing, controlling, and obtaining official assurances for animal material and products (excluding live animals not for human consumption, and germplasm).

The new notice will come into force on 1 March 2024, when it will revoke and replace:
- Animal Products Notice: Official Assurances Specifications for Animal Material and Animal Products issued on 29 March 2017
- Animal Products Notice: Official Assurances Specifications for Dairy Material and Dairy Products issued on 29 March 2017.
Both of these notices remain in force until 1 March 2024.

Consultation background
New Zealand Food Safety consulted on the draft Animal Products Notice: Official Assurance Requirements. This draft notice was to consolidate and replace 2 animal products notices:
- Official Assurances Specifications for Animal Material and Animal Products
- Official Assurances Specifications for Dairy Material and Dairy Products
This consultation opened on 12 May and closed on 9 June 2023.
