The Government has released its draft national adaptation plan. It's called Adapt and thrive: Building a climate-resilient New Zealand.
The plan sets out actions for New Zealand to adapt to the locked-in impacts of climate change, such as rising sea levels and more frequent extreme weather events. It’s a cross-government plan that brings together existing and proposed actions to support adaptation.
The draft plan includes policy proposals for managed retreat, which is the careful and planned movement of people, buildings and sites from areas at high risk of climate change impacts.
Feedback on the draft plan closed 3 June 2022.
