MPI periodically asks for feedback on food safety issues that affect consumers and the food industry. You can make a submission (by post, email or fax) before the closing date. MPI analyses all submissions and considers how they might be included in final decisions.
The Official Organic Assurance Programme (OOAP) provides government assurance that export consignments of organic products have been produced in accordance with the terms of equivalence agreements between New Zealand and the importing country, where these exist.
The OOAP is based on a framework of Standards which sets out the requirements for Third Party Agencies (TPAs) and organic operators. These standards are:
- MAF Standard OP1, “Accreditation, Recognition and Performance Criteria for Third Party Agencies’ and their Personnel – Organic Products”,
- MAF Standard OP1, “Accreditation, Recognition and Performance Criteria for Third Party Agencies’ and their Personnel – Organic Products”,
- MAF Standard OP3, “Registration and Performance Measurement Criteria for Operators – Organic Products” including Appendix Two, Technical Rules for Organic Production.
The Official Organic Assurance Programme (OOAP) Standards have been reviewed and drafts proposed (Link below in Table of Contents).
The Ministry for Primary Industries seeks feedback from interested people and organizations on the draft of OOAP Standard 1 (previously named “Standard OP1”) and OOAP Standard 2 (previously named “Standard OP2”). Public consultation on the draft of OOAP Standard 3 (previously named “Standard OP3”) will be carried out separately.
Notification of this consultation will be sent out in due course.
If you need clarification around any aspect of the consultation document please send a query to organics@mpi.govt.nz or phone: 0800 00 83 33.
