What’s being proposed?
MPI is proposing to extend the look-up tables for forestry participants with exotic hardwoods forests in the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
The current look-up tables only cover tree ages up to 25 years which means they cannot be used accurately for forests older than 25 years.
The proposed extension will result in additional values for carbon stock per hectare being added to the look-up tables in the Climate Change (Forestry Sector) Regulations 2008 for trees aged from 26 to 35 years. This will ensure that ETS participants can submit more accurate emissions returns for their forests.
MPI is seeking feedback on this proposal. If you have any feedback regarding the proposed extensions or have any comment on any relevant problems, alternatives, or impacts (both costs and benefits) that should be considered, then MPI would like to hear from you.
