Download FAR 2016/32 GIS mapping of the longfin eel commercial fishery throughout New Zealand, and estimates of longfin habitat and proportion fished

From interviews of commercial eels fishers, longfin eel fishing effort from 2009–10 to 2013–14 fishing years was mapped using GIS methods, providing the first detailed and high resolution representation of where and how often commercial fishers set their fyke nets in New Zealand rivers, lakes and harbours. The total current longfin habitat in rivers and lakes was estimated and expressed as wetted area, and from these data estimates were made of the proportion of longfin habitat that is currently fished.
