Kingfish from the recreational fishery in northeast New Zealand (KIN1) were measured and aged during the 2014–15 fishing year. Over 2220 lengths were collected from fish larger than 75 cm from Northland/Hauraki Gulf and Bay of Plenty regions. Thin sections of sagittal otoliths from 483 fish were read and age-length keys used to derived age structures and estimate total mortality (Z). Spatial differences in age composition were evident between inshore and offshore samples in each region.
