This paper seeks approval to strengthen the New Zealand fisheries management system through new regulations made under the Fisheries Act 1996 to:
• Require fishing permit holders to use electronic catch reporting, geospatial position reporting and electronic (camera) monitoring of commercial fishing activity, and
• Enable the use of innovative trawl technologies.
