Red imported fire ant (RIFA) (Solenopsis invicta) is a native ant species of Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. It has also established in Queensland, Australia. A single nest was discovered at Auckland International Airport, New Zealand in February 2001. The routes of entry of the Australian and the New Zealand incursions are unknown.
