Download Proposed introduction of carpet shark into the Quota Management System on 1 October 2014

This paper seeks feedback from tangata whenua, stakeholders, the fishing industry and other interested parties on the introduction of carpet shark into the Quota Management System (QMS). Carpet shark is currently managed as an open access fishery. The Ministry for Primary Industries considers that managing hagfish stocks under the QMS will better meet the purpose of the Fisheries Act 1996: to provide for utilisation while ensuring sustainability.
