This report describes an aerial-access survey of the recreational boat-based fishery in FMA 1 in 2017–18. Data from aerial surveys and concurrent interviews with fishers returning to key boat ramps throughout the day, on 47 survey days, was used to estimate the boat-based catch of snapper, kahawai, trevally, tarakihi and red gurnard, and other data are used to assess other harvest sources, such as shore-based fishing. The estimates were used to corroborate a concurrent National Panel Survey.
