This manual has been commissioned by the New Zealand Government to support the goals and objectives of the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases. This manual was compiled to supply details on the design and operation of the different types of existing, newly developed respiration chambers. These chambers constitute the most accurate and precise means of measuring emissions of methane and other gases arising from enteric fermentation, responsible for about 30 percent of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere.
