This research was conducted to obtain an improved understanding of methyl bromide treatment and confirming mortality in sessile invertebrates intercepted from fresh produce importations, particularly dipteran eggs.Work on a biochemical test to objectively evaluate mortality following treatment highlighted the need.Because the research was conducted in New Zealand and house flies can be readily reared and induced to produce eggs of known age, house fly eggs were used as a proxy indicator.
