Download FAR 2013/04 Acoustic biomass estimates of southern blue whiting on the Bounty Platform in 2012

Acoustic data on spawning southern blue whiting were collected along 61 transects in ten snapshots south of the Bounty Islands from FV Tomi Maru 87 between 18 and 26 August 2012. The biomass estimate for 2012, based on the three most extensive snapshots and using a new target strength-fork length relationship, was 13 651 t (c.v. 7%). This was similar to the revised estimates from 2010 and 2009, but less than a fifth of the estimates from 2007 and 2008.
