This is one of several two Mycoplasma bovis Science Programme research projects which aim to support the eradication of the cattle disease M. bovis, reduce the impact of the disease, and leave New Zealand’s biosecurity system stronger.
The Analysis of New Zealand Stock Movement Data project is one of two projects in the programme that examine cattle movement data. The researchers analysed NAIT (National Animal Identification & Tracing) data to increase our understanding of the cattle movement landscape – how movement patterns are associated with different production types, geographic locations and seasonality. Real and simulated data was used to collate and assess cattle movements over four years from 2017 to 2020, giving a picture of movement patterns and spatial distribution. This study was carried out by the University of Melbourne.
