Download FAR 2015/01 Acoustic biomass estimates of southern blue whiting on the Bounty Platform in 2013

Acoustic data on spawning southern blue whiting were collected along 45 transects in 4 snapshots south of the Bounty Islands from FV Tomi Maru 87 between 18 and 25 August 2013. The biomass estimate for 2013, based on the average of snapshots 2–4, was 28 533 t (CV 27%). This was higher than the estimates from 2009–12, but less than half of the estimates from 2007–08. The fishery was dominated by fish from the 2002 year-class, but the proportion of younger fish (2007 year-class) has increased.
