Giant stargazer in STA 7 is primarily caught by the mixed bottom trawl fishery operating off the west coast of the South Island. Standardised CPUE indices from the trawl fishery indicate the abundance of stargazer remained relatively stable during 2007/08-2012/13. This result is consistent with the corresponding abundance indices from the west coast South Island inshore trawl survey. Standardised CPUE indices from the preceding period are not considered to be reliable indices of abundance.
