Logs

Import Permits or Declarations  
Certification Requirements Phytosanitary certificate required.
Prohibited Importations  
Bark For debarked logs, tolerances for bark are; 5% on any individual log and 2% on any row of logs. Debarked logs may be carried with untreated logs.
Insects Free of quarantine pests.
Fungi Free of quarantine pests.
Soil Soil is prohibited. Soil clumps that are both thicker than 5 mm. and greater than 25 mm across must be removed. Particular attention must be given to the removal of organic soils.
Other Free of pathogenic micro-organisms, seeds, cultures of bacteria and virus and other harmful organisms.
Pre-Shipment Inspections Verification inspection required.
Approved Pre-Shipment Treatments Fumigation is required for logs that have not been debarked.
Fumigation

In-hold Phosphine fumigation rate:

  • A total of 3.5 g/m3 application required within sealed holds in order to maintain a minimum gas concentration of 200 ppm for 240 hours (10 days).

Note: The fumigation period must be continuous.

  • The date and time of degassing must be documented in the ships log. A top-up during the fumigation period is required

Methyl bromide fumigation rates :

  • 80 g/m3 for at least 16 hours at log and ambient temperatures above 15 ˚C
  • 120 g/m3 for at least 16 hours at log and ambient temperatures between 5 ˚C to 15 ˚C

Fumigated logs must be segregated from untreated bark-on logs.

Insecticide treatments Alternative treatment required for bark-on logs only. Details of all insecticide treatment shall be documented by an additional declaration on the phytosanitary certificate.
