Meeting halal standards for export
Halal products could be meat or dairy. All halal products first need to meet relevant New Zealand legislation and requirements.
All New Zealand halal establishments (premises) are required to have a halal programme. A halal programme records which markets an establishment can export to, and documents details of their halal operation. Halal programmes must be approved by an approved halal organisation (AHO). Premises must also be registered with the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) as an approved halal establishment.
It is the exporter's responsibility to ensure all requirements have been met before the halal product is exported.
