MPI and local councils are registration authorities

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and all territorial authorities (local councils) are registration authorities under the Food Act 2014. They register food businesses operating under these risk-based measures:

food control plans (FCPs) – template and custom
national programmes.

Who does what?

This table outlines who will register businesses under each risk-based measure.

Registration data and MAPS

Each local council uses its own systems to manage their registration processes.

However, the Food Act 2014 requires MPI to maintain a public register of risk-based measures. MAPS (Multiple Approvals Processing System) was developed by MPI to hold the details of all food control plan and national programme registrations.

Local councils are responsible for transferring their registration data into MAPS.
