The TTMRA is implemented in New Zealand through the Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Act 1997. This is overarching legislation meaning all other laws are subject to it unless specifically excluded or exempted.
Foods exempt from the TTMRA
A small number of high-risk foods are exempt from the TTMRA.

Through the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code), the risk criteria for these foods have been aligned. This means that many of these foods are subject to joint standards under the Code and are therefore subject to the TTMRA.
