What are the offences?
The 2 offences you may be fined for are:
- operating or purporting to operate a transitional facility or containment facility when not approved as the facility’s operator
- not complying with the operating standards for a transitional facility or containment facility when operating or purporting to operate the facility.
The penalties
The penalty for both offences is an infringement fee (instant fine) of:
- $400 for an individual
- $800 for a corporation (for example, a company).
You don't get a criminal conviction.
How to avoid getting a fine
We encourage compliance. So, if you let us know about non-compliance, you may avoid being fined.
What to do if you get an infringement notice
You can:
- pay your fine
- request withdrawal or a waiver
- request a court hearing.
