Papers considered
Three papers were presented to the Agricultural Inventory Advisory Panel for consideration:
- Direct N2O emission factors for livestock excreta based on hill slope and livestock type.
- Revisions to the National Inventory Model for New Zealand Goats.
- Minor improvements to the equations used to estimate energy efficiency for maintenance for cattle, sheep, and deer.
Outcomes
The panel recommended that 3 of the proposals presented in these papers should be used in the 2020 Agriculture Greenhouse Gas Inventory:
- revised N2O emission factors for livestock excreta
- a new method for allocating excreta to different hill slopes
- improvements to equations used to estimate energy efficiency.
The panel also recommended that new activity data on the dairy goat population should be used to estimate emissions from goats. More significant changes were proposed for the goat sector but the panel did not recommend including these.
