Papers considered by the panel 

Six papers were presented to the panel for consideration.

  1. Nitrous oxide emissions from non-manure organic amendments to soils.
  2. Updating emissions calculations for pigs.
  3. Updating population estimates for minor livestock categories.
  4. Including EcoPond Generation 2 for dairy cattle.
  5. Methodology for assigning animals in the deer industry to the production of venison or velvet antler.
  6. Seasonality of wool growth.

Two other papers were presented to the panel for its information.

  1. Corrections and data improvements to Inventory Model 2024.
  2. Methodology for calculating the impact of low methane sheep genetics in the New Zealand flock.

Outcomes from the 2024 meeting

The panel recommended all the proposed changes be made, with some minor adjustments (see minutes for details). The recommendation to include EcoPond Generation 2 is contingent on results of a final full-scale trial under the standard operating procedure for EcoPond Generation 2.
